My mom got a Vogue embroidery pattern in the 1970s. It was instructions for 10 iron-on Christmas ornaments to be embroidered and an iron-on stocking (also to be embroidered- obvs!). (Vogue Patterns 1754 St. Nick Knacks)
She bought all the supplies: a yard or two of super thin white felt, J&P Coats floss, and various ribbons and cording. She ironed on all the ornaments and stockings she wanted to make. She embroidered one stocking, and six ornaments. She started nine ornaments.
And then she bundled everything up into cookie tin where the project sat and sat and sat...
One day maybe a decade ago she gave me the tin. But it was all satin stitch and I've never been very good at satin stitch. I was more of a cross-stitcher when I was a child. But during the early days of the pandemic I tried my hand at embroidery again, and now I've taken on my mom's forty-year-old UFO- unfinished object!
So far I've completed the embroidery on six of them.
I only have 22 more ornaments to embroider and 2 large stockings!
Then I have to complete all of them with felt backing and ribbons and cording and...
I think I know why this project has sat uncompleted for 40 some odd years!!!!
Well, I've been plugging away on the ornaments and have made some solid progress!! Here they are all in their embroidered only state! (My cat is always by my side!)
This is a sample of them with their contrasting felt! My pinking shears are ancient and my hand hurts after cutting them all out- twice! once in the white and once in the contrasting felt!
Here they are with their loops attached but not yet stuffed!
One set of 10 completed!!!
