Embroidery!!! 2022 Phenology Wheel of Common Plants in California

I love Inspirations magazine which is an Australian publication, and one thing I love about it is all the Australian native flora and fauna. Albeit most of the time the native flora is the eucalyptus tree, it doesn't change my love of it. And it got me thinking about how I'd like to do more California native flora, so I started looking around for some ideas and came across a Cutesy Crafts project. It is an embroidered phenology wheel

Phenology is the study of cyclic and seasonal natural phenomena- so perfect for a monthly project of plants in California!

When I stumbled on this, I thought it was brilliant! She even created it as a stitch along project. However, the year was drawing to a close when I stumbled upon it, so I decided to table the project until January to do month by month on my own. I'm actually pretty excited about it.

January- Dwarf Strawberry Tree (native to southern Europe but common in California)

February- Wormwood (native to Europe but common in California)

I'm not sure why I never took a picture after I completed it! D'oh!

March- California Poppy (our state flower and of course native to California- and western Oregon)

April- Lupine (native to California)

May- Fairy Lanterns (native to Australia- California and Australia have a lot of climatic similarities)

June- Blackberries (native to the west coast- among many other places!)

July- Sunflower (native to North America- and believed to have first been cultivated almost 5,000 years ago!)

August- Prairie Fire (native to the western parts of most of the Americas- from Alaska to the Andes!)

September- Manzanita (native to California!)

October- Doveweed (native to western parts of the US and Mexico)

November- Evening Primrose (native to eastern parts of the US but common in California)

December- California Holly, also called Toyon (native to California)

The finished wheel!

Here's what I did with the wheel!
