Californica 2023- January the California Peony Finished Embroidery

January is finished and I have to say I learned a lot about how I want to move forward on this project/site.

First:

Here's the finished month!

 Things I learned:

  1. I'm not going to publish the plan until I've completed the month because I kept changing my mind on what I liked/could do.
  2. While I may want to incorporate a variety of stitches into my work, it's much harder to do than I imagined!
  3. My design is really small for tracing the cursive onto my bumpy fabric. It doesn't really look bumpy here but my pencil/pen assured me it's bumpy every time the jump over a strand of the fabric. Sigh!
  4. I have not mastered anchor threads! I will persevere but wow! I really like just tying a knot in the back, but sometimes those knots in the back are an issue, so I'm trying to learn some new tricks. Hello, old dog!
  5. Even though, I was dragging my feet at various points, afraid to find myself pulling out my floss again, I'm still optimistic that I'll really like the finished version of this project. I'm so thrilled to highlight California natives even if I don't think I do them justice. I'm trying and that's exciting in its own right!

Here's to an exciting year celebrating California natives!
