The last embroidered part of the Californica project is the title. There are all kinds of ways to finish the title, but I decided that I wanted to incorporate quite a few of the colors from the flowers into the title. Since this project is filled with firsts for me, the title should be too, right? I imagined an gradation-type title, and then I picked the colors and the order. Then I divide the title into 8 relatively-equal horizontal parts. Here's a rough idea of what I mean.
Then I decided that I would do straight stitches across the width of the title in the respective colors. In the process of doing this I realized I was struggling to keep the outlines of the letters. Thus, I decided to backstitch the letters in the following colors.
Backstitch in 2 strands:
C- DMC 3078
A- DMC 307
L- DMC 3078
I- DMC 307
F- DMC 972
O- DMC 971
R- DMC 962
N- DMC 972
I- DMC 209
C- DMC 320
A- DMC 895
Then the tricky part is doing the straight stitches. My idea is to have it be a gradation which means you have to mix the colors together. I decided to do the bulk of the area in the color, then before getting to the next color, you lay a line of the other color, staggering it so you get a transition. I feel like it's hard to verbalize, so here's a terrible picture I did in Paint to try to better convey the idea.
Then once all the straight stitches are completed, I went back and whip stitched all the backstitches. Here's the color scheme for that.
C- DMC 307
A- DMC 3078
L- DMC 307
I- DMC 3078
F- DMC 971
O- DMC 962
R- DMC 972
N- DMC 971
I- DMC 320
C- DMC 895
A- DMC 209
Okay, so it's not perfect, but I loooooooove it!!! :D
